Weekly Photo Challenge: Shadowed

Australia beach

First of all, Happy 2015 everyone! I hope you all had a safe and fun festive season. I’ve just come back to Tokyo after spending some quality time with family and friends back in Australia. It’s going to take some time before I stop dreaming of warm sunshine, soft sandy beaches, and wide open spaces. But I’ve got a few exciting things coming up this year, so just gotta keep looking forward!

This post is in response to the Daily Post’s Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s theme is Shadowed.

I’ve gone for a literal interpretation of the theme. These photos were taken recently in Palm Cove in North Queensland, about 1.5 hours from my hometown in Australia. Palm Cove is no doubt the most popular beach for holiday makers with lots of exclusive resorts and wedding venues. It is a beautiful place. But in summer, it’s damn hot! Stand in the sun for five minutes, and you start to feel your skin burn. Even walking barefoot on the sand can feel like you’re walking on hot coals. The only relief from the heat are the shadows created by the trees.
